Only One God - Isaiah 44:6-23 - January 28, 2024
Sunday Jan 28, 2024
Sunday Jan 28, 2024
This passage contains the two-sided affirmation that the LORD only is God, and that idolatry is foolish and futile. The clear witness of Scripture is that God does not dwell in images of wood, stone, and metal, nor in the mental imaginations of man. As the word unfolds, we see that God dwells in the Man of flesh, bone, and blood, Jesus Christ. Jesus dwelt among us and we beheld his glory. In Jesus, we know God as our Redeemer and Rock. Let us not fear, for the LORD is with us.

God’s Grace Abounds - Isaiah 43:1-44:5 - January 21, 2024
Sunday Jan 21, 2024
Sunday Jan 21, 2024
The word “grace” is not used in this passage, but it could be written over the whole of it. This passage communicates the uniqueness of God as the one living and true LORD, the Creator, the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He alone can create, call, and care for his people. He shows abounding grace to them in their captivity and sin. His grace to his people reveals his glory to the nations. This is true today. May we be drawn to Christ by the cords of his grace to declare his praise to all.

The message to God’s people is that his Servant will heal them up not break them to ruin. He will fan the flame of their faintly burning lives not blow them out. The Lord is with them in their weakness to bring them under his just rule and into a right relationship with him. Ultimately, this message applies to Christ who strengthens and leads us in the kingdom of God. Turn to Christ today.

The Lord is communicating to his people that the captivity they are experiencing in no way threatens the reality of his sovereignty or their election. He will strengthen, help, and uphold them. For this reason, they are not to fear. This message for Judah in exile in the sixth century is for Christ’s church and Christians at all times and in all places until he returns. Do not fear.
