Our past, present, and future as Christians are represented in this passage, and reconciliation to God is the gift of grace that makes our lives complete in Christ. Once we were alienated from God, but now we are reconciled to him. As those who are now reconciled, we will one day be before him in glory. With this promise comes the call to continue on in faith with hope.

This passage shows us how Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is preeminent over creation and the church. May the vision of Christ put before us lead to faith, worship, and the highest love and devotion to him.

A regular theme in the New Testament is gratitude for God’s grace to us in Christ. Paul expresses this gratitude in his prayer in Colossians. This passage gives us a deep and wide understanding of the grace of God that will expand our prayers and energize our living for his glory. Let every day begin with remembering the benefits that are ours in Christ.

The prayers of the Bible are always relevant and we should always be praying them. In this one, we see that the knowledge of God’s will is for the purpose of living for God’s pleasure. Pleasing God is bearing fruit in good works, enduring by his strength, and giving thanks for his grace. When we pray for this we can be sure the Lord will answer us. When we pursue this, we can be sure he will grant it. Let us pray, and pursue, for the glory of God.

Paul gives thanks for the evidence of the gospel’s grace and power among these believers. Faith in Christ and love for each other, rooted in the hope laid up in heaven, are the new and increasing qualities of these Christians and their congregation. This is the work of the Holy Spirit through the preaching of the gospel that we pray is real and evident among us at Grace Community Church.

Modern greetings have become casual to the point of carrying little meaning and adding almost no value to our conversations and correspondence. But when Paul opened his letter to the Colossians, he made bold claims about Christ that called his readers to believe. Today, we will hear these claims and ask ourselves if we believe.
