Love and Obedience - John 14:15-24 - July 24, 2022

Jesus prepared the disciples for his departure by telling them that love and obedience are inseparable. Jesus loved the Father and became obedient to the point of death on the cross. The cross was also a display of love for us. Now, the love of Christ comes to us as forgiveness of sin and reconciliation to God, adoption as God’s children and glory to come. Christ’s love awakens our love for him and compels our obedience to his commands. If we love Jesus, we will obey him.

I Will Come Again - John 14:1-11 - July 17, 2022

To his troubled disciples who feared a future without him, Jesus said, “I will come again.” This is the first promise Jesus gave in the Farewell Discourse. If we believe Jesus and his promise, we will find peace for our troubled hearts and hope for the future. Let us encourage one another with these words.

After Judas went out into the dark of night to betray Jesus, Jesus said that now is the time of his glorification, and now he would glorify God.  Jesus was referring to the time of his death on the cross.  Today, we ask how the cross of Christ brings glory to God.  What attributes of God are revealed in the cross?  What impact does seeing the glory of God in the cross of Christ have on us? May Christ crucified be our vision.

Jesus’ Glory in His Hour of Betrayal - John 13:18-32 - June 26, 2022

In the dark hour of his betrayal, Jesus spoke the words of faith in the sovereign hand and sure plan of God his Father. “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.” Jesus was to be glorified through the betrayal that would lead to the cross. This gives us the confidence that nothing can thwart the will of God to save us from our sins. We can live with hope that darkness does not overcome the light. God is working all things for his glory and our good. Today, let us see the glory of Christ in the dark hour of betrayal and take heart that he is with us.
