This Jesus . . . - Acts 2:14-36 - September 7, 2025

The two responses of the crowd in Jerusalem to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit reflect their unbelief. Some are confused, some mock, but all are blind to the reality that the Spirit of God has come upon his people. Peter, the once fearful disciple who denied his Lord, now stands filled with courage by the power of the Spirit to declare that what is happening can be explained only as the work of Jesus of Nazareth. This Jesus, crucified and raised, has now poured out the Holy Spirit. This Jesus is both Lord and Christ. To this Jesus we turn in repentance and faith. This Jesus we proclaim.
Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world. One of the ways that we pursue this mission is by gathering each Sunday for corporate worship, prayer, and biblical teaching. The corporate nature of this gathering is both edifying to the believer and a witness of God’s grace to the world. Sermon speaker is Scott Patty unless otherwise noted.

In Acts 2, the promised day is here, and Jesus pours out his Spirit on his disciples. That day marks a new day in God’s redemptive history. In the days of the prophets and of John the Baptist, the Spirit was promised. Now the Spirit has come, filling believers with power to declare the mighty works of God in the last days. These are the days in which we live. This promise is for us. May the Lord open our eyes to this indescribable gift.

The days between the ascension of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and disciples were significant in the history of church and remain so for us today. These days show us the importance of obedience and prayer, the necessity of Scripture being fulfilled, and the provision that Christ makes for his church to be his witnesses. We gain instruction and encouragement from these things.

Monday Aug 18, 2025
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he commissioned his apostles concerning their work in the world. Knowing that they were inadequate in themselves for this work, Jesus promised them the Holy Spirit, who would give them power. He promised that they would fulfill their call to be his witnesses. And he promised to return and bring the work to a final and victorious end. These promises are true for the church today, and they give us the confidence we need to faithfully continue on.

All our hope is in Jesus. We trust him for salvation, follow him as Lord, and live in union with him. Jesus is the cornerstone, and his
chosen apostles laid the foundation of truth on which the household of God is built. Today, from Acts 1, we see what Jesus did to prepare his apostles before he ascended into heaven. We come to faith in Jesus and enter the kingdom of God through their witness of him.

What Jesus Began and Continues to Do - Acts 1:1-11 - August 3, 2025
Monday Aug 04, 2025
Monday Aug 04, 2025
The book of Acts opens with what Jesus began to do and teach while on earth. As it unfolds, we discover what Jesus continues to do on earth in these last days. Until Jesus returns, there will be no end to his activity, by his Spirit, through his church that proclaims in all the world what his apostles witnessed concerning him. Today, we open the book of Acts to see Jesus reigning in heaven and ruling on earth. Someday we will see him in the new heavens and new earth. Until them, let us continue in faithfulness to him.
