Jesus Commissions His Church - John 20:19-23 - November 20, 2022
Monday Nov 21, 2022
Monday Nov 21, 2022
Jesus came as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He accomplished his mission by atoning for sin on the cross. Now he commissions his church to proclaim his accomplishment and call people to repent and believe in him for the forgiveness of sins. Today, we rejoice that Jesus is alive, we rely upon him for the forgiveness of our sins, we receive his command to preach the gospel, and we resolve to carry out our mission together as a congregation.
Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world. One of the ways that we pursue this mission is by gathering each Sunday for corporate worship, prayer, and biblical teaching. The corporate nature of this gathering is both edifying to the believer and a witness of God’s grace to the world. Sermon speaker is Scott Patty unless otherwise noted.

The Resurrection and Appearances of Jesus - John 20 - November 13, 2022
Sunday Nov 13, 2022
Sunday Nov 13, 2022
Jesus did many signs while he was with his disciples. Some were written down in the Gospel of John. Others were not recorded. The death, burial, and resurrection appearances were written by John just as he and his friends experienced them. John wrote these things so that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. If we believe, we will have life in Jesus’ name.

The Gospel writers give us the details of the burial of Jesus. The Apostle Paul listed Jesus’ burial as one of the essential events of the gospel. Today we give our attention to this often overlooked event to again expand our vision of Jesus. The burial of Jesus shows us the reality and power of his death that changes our hearts, and of his resurrection that makes all things new.

The vision we see of Jesus in this passage is him standing alone. He is denied by his disciple, rejected by his people, declared “not guilty” but sentenced to death. A closer look shows him alone because he only bore the punishment of our sins, brings us to God, and remains faithful to the end. Seeing Jesus with the eyes of the heart generates faith, hope, and love.
